“Our suffering stems from ignorance. We react because we do not know what we are doing, because we do not know the reality of ourselves.”
You must LOG IN to access the Old Student Website
The Dhamma Surabhi old student website contains information regarding group sittings with other meditators in your area, old-student courses, dhamma service, dāna, and centre development. Please feel free to contact us if you’re an old student and have forgotten the login information.
If you haven’t yet attended a 10-day course in this tradition, please view our home page or the International Vipassana page for more information on sitting a 10-day course.
Serving a Course
All old students (i.e. those who have completed at least one 10-day course as taught by S.N. Goenka) are welcome to volunteer to help run our courses.
Each course needs eight or more servers to manage the kitchen and to serve as student managers during every course. We invite both full time (for the entire course) and part-time (for part of a course or in between courses) servers.
If you wish to serve, please read the Purpose of Dhamma Service, and the Code of Conduct for Dhamma Service. Please note: You will need a username and password to access these webpages. If you are an old student and are unable to login please contact [email protected].
You can apply via the schedule. The process is very similar to applying to sit a course.
Serving Multiple Courses
With the agreement of an assistant teacher and the management, serious students may stay at the centre for longer periods in order to become more established in the theory and practice of Dhamma. During this time, they will be able to meditate on some courses and serve on others, as decided in consultation with the teachers and management.
Between Courses
We are always in need of servers between courses, to clean up after the end of a course and prepare for the upcoming course. Therefore we request servers to come a day or two early or leave a day or two late to help with the chores. In such cases, we are able to provide a ride from the Merritt bus station to the Centre.
If you are serving more than one course or alternating between serving and sitting courses, you can stay at the Centre between courses and help the staff maintain the Centre.
